The automatic egg-turning tray has six egg compartments. Each compartment can fit eight large chicken eggs. It's a good idea to fill each egg compartment being used to the total capacity. Therefore, we recommend incubating either eight, 16, 24, 32, 40 or 48 chicken eggs each time you use the incubator.

If you’re incubating a different poultry species, we still recommend filling each egg compartment being used to full capacity. However, the number of eggs it takes to fill each egg compartment may be different. For example, each of the six egg compartments can fit 27 quail eggs or seven duck eggs.

Yes, you can incubate different poultry species together. However, you’ll need to set the eggs in the incubator at intervals so they are all due to hatch at the same time.

For example, chicken eggs take 21 days to hatch and Japanese quail eggs take 17 days to hatch. This means you would set the chicken eggs in the incubator first, and then set the quail eggs four days later. This way the chickens and quail will hatch at the same time.

The Janoel Model 48 comes with an automatic egg-turning tray that sits inside the incubator. The automatic egg-turning tray is made up of six egg compartments. Eggs will be placed in each compartment vertically with the pointed end of each egg facing down and the larger, rounded end facing up.

Each automatic egg-turning tray compartment has been designed to fit one row of medium to large size eggs or two rows of smaller quail eggs. This means you don’t need to purchase new egg-turning trays to incubate different poultry egg types.

Each egg compartment being used should be filled with eggs. This will ensure all eggs remain upright as they are turned. If there are any small gaps at the end of an egg compartment, they can be filled with cotton wool to ensure the eggs are secure.

Before closing the lid, the power cord for the automatic egg-turning tray can be connected to a plug located inside the lid of the incubator. The automatic egg-turning tray will then gently rotate each egg compartment from side to side at a very slow and constant rate. This is the same egg-turning method used by large, commercial poultry farm egg incubators. In total, the eggs will be turned 12 times per day.

The eggs should stop being turned three days before the chicks hatch. The automatic egg-turning tray can simply be unplugged and lifted out of the incubator at this time. The eggs can then be placed on the large hatching tray ready for the hatch.

The Janoel model 48 has a reliable and effective water channel system to control humidity.

There are two water channels in the base of the Janoel Model 48 egg incubator. The main water channel should always contain water. The surface area of water exposed in this channel has been carefully calculated to result in a specific amount of evaporation when the water is heated to 38°C. This evaporation, combined with the fan-forced air circulation and ventilation through the air vents has been configured to deliver optimum humidity during incubation.

Three days before the chicks are due to hatch, the second water channel should also be filled with water. This will increase the amount of water evaporating to raise the humidity to the optimum level for the hatch.

The main water channel should be topped up every three days to ensure it doesn’t run dry. You may need to refill the main water channel more regularly if the ambient room temperature or humidity is low, or less often if the ambient room temperature is warmer or more humid.

To refill the main water channel, the incubator should be switched off before lifting the lid. The day counter has a memory function, so the number of days that have passed since the eggs were set in the incubator will be saved.

The water channel can then be topped up using the water-filling bottle provided. Everything inside the egg incubator can remain in place while refilling the water channel. This makes refilling the water channel quick and easy.

The second water channel should be filled with water three days before the chicks hatch. This will occur at the same time as the eggs are removed from the automatic egg-turning tray and placed on the hatching tray. If either water channel needs topping up after this point, the lid should not be opened to add more water. Instead, the water-filling hole on the side of the Janoel Model 48 egg incubator can be used with the water-filling bottle to refill the water channels.

The Janoel Model 48 features a humidity alarm that will let you know if the water channel runs dry. This is helpful if you forget to refill the water channel.

The low humidity alarm can be adjusted to sound when the humidity drops below a set level between 1% and 99% relative humidity.

The incubation day counter starts at zero and counts the number of days that have passed since the eggs were set in the incubator. This allows you to easily keep track of when to refill the main water channel and when the eggs need to be placed on the hatching tray.

The day counter has a memory function, so it will remember the number of days when switching the incubator on or off. The day counter can be reset by pressing the reset button.

The Janoel Model 48 has been designed to make cleaning the incubator after each hatch easy. All of the electrical components are either built into the lid of the incubator or attached to the automatic egg-turning tray. This means the body of the incubator and hatching tray can be separated to soak in soapy water after the hatch.
