Why choose the Safe Coop automatic chicken door?
After long-term testing of the most popular chicken doors, Poultry Australia proudly offers the Safe Coop automatic chicken coop door. We believe they are the best chicken door for the following reasons:
A chicken door built for Australian conditions
The Safe Coop automatic chicken coop door is engineered and built to last in Australian conditions. External components are made of durable, UV-resistant ASA plastic, stainless steel, and brass.
The motor, light sensor and other electronic components have been engineered with reliability as a top priority. This means you can trust your Safe Coop automatic chicken door to protect your flock every night.
Flexible door opening and closing options to suit your needs
You can decide whether the chicken door opens at a specific time or light level. The light level setting is a great timesaver, as you won’t need to adjust the chicken door as the sunrise time changes throughout the year.
You can set a door closing time, light level, or both (the door will close based on whichever occurs first). The chicken door can also be set to manual opening and closing if you’d like to control the door yourself.
Automatic locking door for ultimate coop security
You can select the auto-locking door option at the checkout to provide ultimate security for your flock. The Safe Coop auto-locking door will lock the door shut every night. The locked door ensures that even the most cunning fox cannot harm your chickens during the night. The door unlocks when it's automatically opened in the morning.
Safe for your chickens
The Safe Coop automatic chicken door is safe for your chickens. Unlike other chicken doors, the Safe Coop automatic chicken door will not be forced shut if one of your hens is in the way. This keeps your chickens safe from injuries.
Easy installation on your chicken coop or run
You can install the Safe Coop automatic chicken door on almost any chicken coop. See the door specifications table below if you have a very small or unusual-shaped chicken coop.
As the automatic chicken door is battery-powered, your coop doesn’t need access to power, and you won’t need to install a solar panel. Your Safe Coop automatic chicken coop door will arrive with comprehensive and easy-to-follow instructions containing diagrams for each step.
Low maintenance
Four standard AA batteries power the Safe Coop automatic chicken coop door. The display includes a battery level indicator, so there is plenty of warning before the batteries need replacing. Thanks to ultra-low energy consumption technology, the batteries last up to two years.

Choosing the right chicken door for your coop
Auto-locking door *most popular*
The auto-locking door has a strong and reliable built-in locking mechanism to lock the door shut automatically. Locking the closed door makes it impossible for intelligent predators like foxes to slide the closed door up the runners.
The auto-locking door comes in one size and is designed for all chicken and duck breeds. It’s manufactured from high-quality components, including UV-resistant ASA plastic and stainless steel, to ensure a long and dependable working life.
Small or large aluminium door
The small and large aluminium doors don’t have a built-in locking mechanism. Instead, they come with a door frame base that covers the bottom of the closed door. As predators can’t access the bottom of the closed door, pushing the door up the runners is nearly impossible.
The doors and door runners are made of aluminium alloy that won’t rust or rot. The small aluminium door is an excellent option for smaller chicken coops where space is limited, and the large aluminium door is an ideal option for poultry of all sizes, including large ducks and geese.
Door controller only
If you already have a chicken-sized sliding door installed on your coop, you can keep your old chicken door and purchase the Safe Coop automatic chicken door controller individually. The Safe Coop automatic door controller is compatible with all sliding chicken doors weighing up to 1.5kg.
